ORANGUTANS TOUR CAMP LEAKEY |

An expedition or adventure trip to Kalimantan Island to visit the Orangutans Rehabilitation Center at Camp Leakey which is located at Tanjung Puting National Park, beside the place of orphane Orangutans at Tanjung Harapan in the same National Reserve. The following short sample of itienrary is basic information of the program can be participated.
01 Arrival at Pangkalan Bun ( LD )
Upon arrival at Pangkalan Bun airport, meeting service and direct transfer to Kumai Boat anchorage by car for 30 minutes. Lunch will be served en-route, then by slow boat called Klotok a traditional wooden boat proceed to Tanjung Harapan rehabilitation center for 1.5 hours trekking. See Orangutan around this station and rangers doing the process of rehabilitation for the ex-captive Orangutans to their natural habitat. Check in at Rimba lodge a beautiful riverside accommodation on Sekonyer river. Exploring the river around the lodge to watch Proboscis monkeys, long tail macaques, birds and wonderful creatures of this area. Dinner and overnight at the Lodge.
Day 02 Rimba Lodge - Pondok Tanggui - Camp Leakey ( BLD )
Early morning leave the lodge at 06.30 to visit Pondok Tanggui station, the second rehabilitation center for orphaned Orangutan located in National park one hour by boat from Rimba lodge to see orangutan feeding at 07.30 am. Take a nice walk for 2 kms to the feeding area through the tropical rain forest. Then proceed by boat up the river for one and half hours to Camp Leakey the old and famous research and rehabilitation center for Orangutan, which has been conducted by the famous Primatologist Prof. Dr. MF Birute Galdikas since 1971. Trekking through tropical rain forest and searching for the wild orangutan, birds, agile gibbon and other primates beside exotic jungle plants. Lunch will be served on the boat. Back to the Camp Leakey at 2.30 pm to witness feeding time for orangutans rehabilitation. Afterwards return to Rimba lodge, en-route you may be offered a remarkable afternoon attraction by proboscis monkeys and long tail macaques and other creatures. Dinner and overnight at Rimba lodge.
Day 03 Rimba Lodge - Kumai - Airport ( B )
After breakfast transfer by boat to Kumai town and then direct transfer to the airport for your flight to your next destination. |

Tour starts and end at Pangkalan Bun Airport Central Kalimantan
Validity : immediately until 31 December 2008
Inclusion : Transfers with taxi or minivan, traditional boat transport, tour guide, meals as stated on itinerary. B for Breakfast, L for Lunch, and D for Dinner. All entrance and donation fees, snack, seasonal fruits, mineral water and soft drink during trekking or on boat. Accommodation as mentioned on itinerary. Exclusion : Tipping and any personal expenses.

A permit to enter Tanjung
Putting National Park where Camp Leakey Orangutans Rehabilitation
Center is managed is needed, please fax or mail to us
your passport photocopy to us, and to be received at
least one month before your arrival in Pangkalan
Bun, the entrance to Orangutans Rehabilitation
Center at Camp Leakey. Touring Borneo is still somewhat
an adventure trip, with the minimum condition of transportation,
accommodation and on sea transportation. Schedules in
so far never experienced a great changes and still within
the time frame of the program. Small changes on schedules
sometimes unavoidable for the sake of clients and the
best maintenance of the program. Borneo is famous for
tropical rain forest and wildlife, so you will meet
some insects geckos, cockroaches, ants and other small
animals throughout your way of touring even some times
around the accommodation in Camp Leakey. Most of these
insects and small animals are not dangerous except green
snakes and some vipers which your tour guide will inform
you properly during the tour orientation. Please make
sure that you get this information before going deep
to your tour of Orangutans in Camp Leakey. Light equipment,
safety and health are important to be bring along with
you. All tour packages are designed with soft until
hard adventure, no specific skill is needed to join
the tour until the rehabilitation center of Orangutans
at Camp Leakey, all you need is just the spirit of adventure
and good health. On our expedition safety is essential.
Our team are consist of expert guide in ecological adventure
in Borneo with a well equipments that will ensure your
safety. For travelers we suggest to bring lightweight
medical aid, anti acid, skin protector from sun burn,
insect repellent or spray or cream as well as anti malaria
tablets. Private gear such as traveling bag, backpack,
light clothes or sport cloths, rain coat or jacket,
sunglasses, extra socks, emergency rations, sneakers/sandal,sports
shoes, comass, camera with telelens, binocular and other
personal needs. You might have to shop in the city for
beer, cigarettes or any personal need before your departure
since during tour you will not find any shop selling
personal needs. Flight from Semarang to Pangkalan Bun
is still using small aircraft, which is usually the
CN 235 or CASSA with capacity around 18 to 36 persons,
and it is non-jet flaying. Any delay or changes in flight
schedule rarely happened, and you are to be ready to
accept this condition, and we are not to be held responsible
for this.
