Discover the history and mystery
of Borobudur temple, one of the world's great architectural
masterpieces. After visiting Borobudur Buddhist Temple
we also visit Pawon Hindu Temple. This small Hindu temple
is located on the midst of traditional villages and
assumed to have been built at the same time with the
construction of Borobudur. Second small Hindu temple
closed by the Pawon temple is Mendut temple another
Buddhist temple with beautiful sculpture of Buddha Sakyamuni,
one of the ancient Buddhist pantheon member. It is a
proof that the Hindu and the Buddhist living side by
side without any conflict in the past. This era, the
time of construction of Borobudur has been disclosed
by archaeologists as having been started from 742 to
824 AD. Lunch will be served en-route at local restaurant.
After lunch continue to visit the city of Yogyakarta,
the center of Javanese culture. First visit the Keraton,
the magnificent palace of the Sultan. The bird market
of Ngasem and the water castle will be your next visit
after the Sultans Palace. Traditional home industry
of Batik making center and the artists at work is next
visit. The original home of Yogyakarta's silverware
at Kotagede will be the highlight of the visit which
shows the beautiful craft of local people. |

Borobudur Temple is located
in the Central Java province, around 42 kms from Yogyakarta
the art center of Java island. The name of Borobudur
is derived from the sanskrit words "Vihara Buddha
Uhr" which means "Buddhist Monastery on the
hill". Borobudur temple was built by the Cailendra
Dynasty in the eight century. Now Borobudur temple become
one of the world's famous temples. Borobudur temple
stands majestically on a hilltop facing lush green fields
and distance hills. Borobudur temple is built of gray
andesite stone, in the form of a massive symmetrical
stupa wrapped around the hill. Borobudur temple stands
on 118 x 118 maters base, the top is the great stupa
standing 40 meters above the ground. The walls of Borobudur
temple are sculptures in has relief extending over a
total length of 6 kilometers. Borobudur temple has been
hailed as the largest and most complete ensemble of
Buddhist relief in the world. Borobudur temple is Indonesia's
popular tourist attraction and sometime crowded and
noisy especially during weekends. Borobudur temple is
open from 6.00 am to 17.15 pm daily. Mendut and Pawon
temple is located nearby Borobudur complex. Mendut temple
is dedicated to Kwera the Buddhist God of Fortune is
located around 3 km from Borobudur complex. Mendut is
said to face toward Benares, India, where Buddha Gautama
tough his five disciples the very first time.
The smaller temple of Mendut which houses the great
statues of Buddha and the Pawon temple form an integral
part of the Borobudur complex. Through these smaller
temples complexes the pilgrim must pass before ascending
the great Borobudur complex. During Waisak day, the
monks start to walk from Mendut to Pawon than Brobudur
temple followed by thousand pilgrims coming from all
over the world usually falls in May every years. On
the ground of Borobudur complex, there is Manohara Hotel
sets-up for visitor who want to spend their time more
at Borobudur temple. Since the hotel always full especially
during weekend, public holidays, Waisak and New year,
in advance reservation with some deposit is needed to
