Total area of Jakarta Special Province is 650 square kms with the position from 106o22'42'' to 106o58'18'' East and from
-5o19'12'' to -5o25'54'' South. The position of the land from the sea level is
from 0 meter at Tanjung Priok Sea Port area to 50 meters above sea level, especially high place at south
Jakarta. The more south the more higher the land altitude.The area of Jakarta city is located on the
north west of west Java province on the bay protected on the east by the cape of Karawang and on the
west by the area of east Teluk Naga which protrudes deep to the sea. The whole area of Jakarta is
encircled by the area of Kabupaten Bekasi on the east, south and west sides. On the north is Java sea
protected by about 60 small islands scattered at the stright line of North - South of Kabupaten
Tanggerang. Most of the city area includees the northern shore are flat land with low level, and toward
the southern area the land is elevating to higher level from sea level. The city is splitted by a river
called Ciliwung which starts at highland of Bogor and Puncak, a place aroung 70 kms south of Jakarta
city. The land condition of Jakarta is subject of yearly flooding, especially the lowland used as the
housing by the poorer people along the river sides such as Ciliwung river. Accoring to the report of
research on Pulau Seribu, one is the Kecamatan district of Jakarta, the pollution of wastes such as
plastic are threatening the equatic life along Jakarta bay. The whole city is divided into 5
municipalities at the same lavel as Kabupaten, those North Jakarta municipality, east Jakarta
municipality, south Jakarta municipality, central Jakarta, and west Jakarta municipality. For those
5 municipalities are administrated under the province of Jakarta and headed by a governor. Each
municipality is divided into some smaller unit of administration called Kecamatan. Each Kecamatan is
divided into more smaller unit of administration called Kelurahan which covers up to the smallest units
of administration such as settlement units called RT and RW.
