In 1930 Prof. Dr. Charles Damais, a France archaeologist was the first expert to completely deciphered
the stone inscription of Blanjong. Blanjong now is the name of a temple, located near Sanur Beach hotel
where the inscription is preserved well in-site. It was actually since 882 AD that various inscriptions
indicating the political history of Bali, but no one of them gives clear idea about the center of the
kingdom, and the name of the king. With the discover of Blanjong stone

inscription it was disclosed
that the palace of the king was at Singhamandawa, and the name of king was Sri Kesari Warmadewa. The
majesty ordered to carve the inscription in 913 AD after his victory again his enemies in Suwal and
Gurun. The inscription using old Balinese language written in Pallava scripts, and Sanskrit language
written in Old Javanese scripts. The way the king in recording his document is really very interesting.
It was probably he did not want every one able to read the document. Singhamandawa is identified as
current Sanur village, since the name of Blanjong is a Balinese word composed from 2 nouns of
Belahan + Jong meaning breakage + ship. It has been a tradition everywhere that the naming of a place
closely related to the typical event or nature marking at a certain place. So, Blanjong would had been
a place of broken ship. While word "Singha" in the domain of Hindu influenced countries has been used
to refer a port city. If the place of current Blanjong area was the port 1087 years ago it can be
imagined that the shore line has now very far from the place. Archaeological hypothesis gives an idea,
that on the beach of Sanur has happened what is call ant-abrasion during a thousand year, which cased
the shore line has been moved almost 300 meters toward the ocean. This theory does not yet get any
verification such as stratigraphical excavation research from the department. Glacial theory might
answer the phenomenon, and as a result of growing global heating would return the shore line in the
future.
