PROSTITUTION GIRLS RUMOR IN BANDUNG

Bandung is the capital city of West Java province, now covering a wide area of West Java island less Jakarta and Banten province. Banten was separated from West Java in 2000 to form their own provincial government with the claim of their unique culture and history. Starting 17thcentury Jakarta has shown an independence development in West Java as modern commercial city, while Bandung was like a resort and military base. Seen from the whole Java island West Java has special characteristics compared to Java in General. Java as what is understood by people in West Java is central and East Java. West Java in the tradition is called Parahyangan or Pasundan. Pasundan in short Sunda is now used to refer the people of West Java with their language which has slight differentiation from Javanese language in the level of lexicon.

In the course of history Bandung as the capital city of West Java developed into big city with full activities of government offices, education centers, and technology. During Dutch colonization Bandung is known as Paris of Java due its beautiful panorama, fine architecture and ordered city plan. This famous name again added with the fine word of Bandung as Flower City, decorated with its beautiful flower garden. This good name was still being heritage of Republic of Indonesia after independence.

It was not long after independence, the city was burdened with further development of Industry and trade so every one might forgot about environment and the name of Paris or flower is only on the story. Just like the name of Parahyangan which means the above of gods was buried deeply after the coming of Islam. It is really a pity that a civilization was given so many interruptions which caused disharmony. In this time Bandung as a result of un integrated development and consolidation with other parts of west Java region become a spot of land with over burden with people both as result of uncontrollable birth rates and urbanization. It is typical for Muslim countries that bearing children is like an obligation. Bandung and west Java also influenced by this thinking, although since independence the government has been painfully introducing better life planning to families such as family planning with limiting the number of children. As a result of this high birth rates, social problem arising in pace with the effort of government to increase the welfare of the people and even the number of people exceeding the ability of the productivity of economy. As a result very clear is poverty.

West Java as the basis of strong Muslim followers some people showing physically strong commitment on religious practices by wearing scarf for women, and some Arabian like costumes for men. Most girls entering Islamic schools wear scarf, while youth wear white round cap as the symbol of wisdom and life perfection. Some women wear full dress hiding most of their body. It is not rare also that within public school from pre-school to universities there are girls or women wearing scarf. West Java has many towns and cities with strong appearance of this phenomenon such as Sukabumi, Cirebon, Indramayu, Bekasi and Bogor. If we see those women and girls in Bandung with this type of dress the first idea would be that, no prostitution, neither by girls or women or men. Islamic school called Pesantren would have thought them strong discipline of a women fate of their body and an ethic that support the welfare of both men and women. From some religious fires heard the echo of anti porn, and even up to the desk of people representative to be translated into national ethic of conduct in formal form which was already approved by Indonesian DPR at the end of 2008 and got strong opposition from many provinces in East Indonesia, where prostitution, crime are very small.

Why it looks much in contrast with those on real life, is another unanswered question.
