GEREBEG KERATON
Place Yogyakarta Sultanate Palace, in the city of Yogyakarta Province Special District of Yogyakarta Date Unfixed, according to Javanese Calendar Purpose Kingdom Healthiness Praying This event is mixed between religious ritual and Sultanate show of force which is always marked by the parades of palace warriors. At 07.30 ten squadrons of palace warriors in different outfits and dressing stride out from the palace to the northern square. Each squad is given the name of “ Wirobrojo, Daeng, Patangpuluh, Jogokaryo, Prawirotomo, Nyutro, Ketanggung, Mantrijero, Surokarso, and Bugis. It is very strange that among those squads there are 2 regiments seem to have come from South Sulawesi, those are Daeng and Bugis. It is probably in the past that the ethnic of Makasar and Bugis had a special position in the kingdom. These groups of warriors are waiting proudly on the northern square. At 10.00 the “ gunungan “ leave the palace held by many peoples and guided by 2 squads of Bugis and Surokarso proceed to the north square, where other squadrons have been waiting to march in procession to Great Mosque. Gunungan is a big cookies made to look like mountain consist of vegetables, peanuts, ref pepper, eggs, and several foods. Along the way people eulogize the procession with their respective way. Since almost all people who has the spirit to participate or at least to enliven the event. Here people are already piled up to wait the ceremony. The gunungan here as an offering, and media of blessing of gods. After the ceremony people will push each other competing to take any part of the gunungan. This gunungan is believed to bring beneficial fortune for everyone, so one striving over getting the smallest part of the gunungan to take home, or to be planted in the garden.
This event is the most festive event in the municipality of Yogyakarta, since the involvement of the population is so big, not only those who believe the beneficial myth of the gunungan, and those who just want to experience the situation. The chaos at the Great Mosque has never recorded the victim of dead or injury, although from what it is happening it can be easily happened.
For the outside guest it is suggested to be at Northern Square before everything take place, and stay there watching and waiting until the crowds diminishing. It can last for hours until 14.00 in the afternoon. So the outside visitor must be ready with this situation, and be ready with food and drinks.

KASODO TENGGER

The people elected their new priest which is locally called “ Dukun “ The inauguration of this newly appointed Dukun will be organized at a temple located in the crater of Mt. Bromo, on the sea of sand. Everyone walk to ascend the mountain making a great procession, the path will be crowded and piled up with people. The start of the ceremony is before the dawn (midnight), when all start to throw the offering to the crater. During this ceremony it will be difficult to find Jeep driver or horseman in case outside visitor want to ascend the mountain. In case they are willing to walk together with the local people would it be possible. To walk along the foot up to the sea of sandfor those who do not trained for this, it would be very difficult due to the distance and the situation of the road.
